Email marketing is dead…they said.
Well if that’s the case, Iโd like to see where itโs buried so I can pay my respect.
But the thing is:ย EMAIL MARKETING IS NOT DEAD.
It’s very much alive, and you’re leaving money on the table if you’re not taking advantage of it.
No matter what some people say:
“I hate receiving emails”
“I mark them as spam”
“I don’t read them at all”
“I unsubscribe right away”
…It doesn’t change the fact that there’s money on the email list.
So don’t get swayed to a point that you totally ditch list-building and emailing in your marketing strategy.
Because the truth is: A hyper-targeted andย nurturedย email list is like having a gold mine.
You may ask: How can I have a hyper-targeted “the tribe who loves my vibe” kinda list?
It all starts from attracting the right people, your ICA (ideal client avatar), from whatever platform you create brand awareness.
Take, for example, Amy Porterfield, a respected influencer in the digital marketing niche.
She has a podcast (Online Marketing Made Easy), a website, and a Facebook group with very high engagement.ย These are all part of her well-oiled marketing machine.
At the end of every podcast episode, she invites listeners to sign up for her latest lead magnet.. The opt-in form is on her website, where people can conveniently key-in their email address in exchange for the lead magnet.
Mind you, creating a lead magnet is not always easy.ย It must make sense to your target audience, or else you miss the point of creating this marketing asset in the first place.
A lead magnet is where you:
Give value
Establish your authority
Provide a tad bit of improvement in your reader’s life
Miss these points and they will immediately unsubscribe (out of disappointment. Yikes!)
But Amy and her team must’ve put a lot of thought and man-hours to create a sensible and aesthetically-pleasing lead magnet…all in exchange for your precious email address!
Why go through all of that jazz if email addresses are not important, right?
Social media platforms may come and go,ย but your email list is yours to keep, come what may.
And when you have an email list, those email addresses are not meant to just collect digital dust.
You’ve got to send emails to your audience regularly. It’s where you get to touch base with them:
Tell them about your latest podcast episode,ย blog, FB LIVE training, etc.
ย Talk about the latest trend in your industry
ย Talk about the latest movie you’ve seen or your very recent Netflix addiction
ย Heck, tell them that your kid just lost his 2 front teeth, or your furbaby gave birth to 5 cute puppies!
Really, justย NURTURE themย with the most personal message.
Don’t just sellย whenever you’re launching a product or course.
Amy nurtured her email list. So even if 10% of her subscribers grow tired of her and unsubscribes, she still has that 90% to have intimate conversations with.
(I say intimate because emails resemble 1:1 conversations. It’s just between the writer and the reader)
Amy has gained raving fans and affiliates through the years of list building, and the money just follows.
Persuasive emails are important in her sales funnel, she even has a course about email list-building.
She wouldn’t be able to enroll 4,000 students without her nurtured email list (plus her affiliate’s email list).
*By the way, her DCA course was worth $2000. Multiply that by at least 4,000. You do the mathย
So the next time you tell yourself that emails don’t work and that email marketing is dead…think again.
As a summary:
You gotta build your list, nurture them by giving value, so they won’t unsubscribe.
I’d gladly give samples of nurture emails, but only if you want it.
